Job Description

Phoenix Children’s Hospital is the only specialty children’s hospital in Arizona and it is poised to become one of the foremost pediatric hospitals in the nation. The hospital is home to the state’s largest group of pediatric specialists and sub-specialists. In addition, the hospital continues to evolve its clinical practices and is working with leading local and national research partners to uncover new breakthroughs in pediatric medicine.

Currently a 345 bed facility, new construction plans were unveiled in October 2006 that include the building of two new patient bed towers and expansion in bed capacity and other key programs and services over the course of the next several years. CALL CENTER OPERATOR (Temporary Position)

*Please note this is a temporary, non-benefited position. Shift is as follows:

Sunday 6:30am – 3:00pm
Monday OFF
Tuesday OFF
Wednesday 2:30pm – 11:00pm
Thursday 9:00am – 5:30pm
Friday 9:00am – 5:30pm
Saturday 6:30am – 3:00pm

Primary Purpose:

The Call Center Operator plays a vital and pivotal role in the organization in that the Operator provides an individual’s first experience with Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH) and, therefore, their first impression. The primary purpose of the Call Center Operator is to answer telephone calls placed to PCH and direct those calls to the correct destination, which will typically include a hospital department, an outpatient clinic which is part of Phoenix Children’s Medical Group (PCMG), an individual, or a patient room. An additional primary purpose is to answer telephone calls placed to the PCMG clinics after clinic hours and record, and, as required, dispatch messages to our medical staff.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Answers the Code Line, 911, and other emergency lines within three rings 99% of the time. Makes public address announcements properly 98% of the time. Uses equipment and scripts in appropriate manner.

    • Answers telephone calls placed to the Hospital in a manner that is friendly, professional, competent, and positive. Answers calls within six rings 98% of the time.

    • Accesses information, including employee telephone directories or patient directory, to identify the correct extension to which incoming calls should be transferred. Identifies the correct extension 97 % of the time.

    • Successfully transfers calls to the correct extension within 35 seconds 95% of the time.

    • Properly uses department specific equipment, software, and processes, which include, but are not limited to, the knowledge and use of operator stations, downtime equipment (backup phones and microphone), and downtime procedures.

    • Answers on-call requests within six rings 98% of the time and completes incoming calls 60 seconds 90% of the time. Takes and triages messages according to client specific instruction with 98% accuracy, which includes spelling, message form completion, and knowledge of client accounts.

    • Performs miscellaneous job related duties, as assigned.

        Work Environment:

        Activities are performed in a climatically controlled office area subject to long periods of sitting; physical demands including, but not limited to, almost constant, repetitive finger, hand, and wrist movements, reaching, lifting, pulling and pushing objects of varying weights up to an including 10 pounds. Regularly works in an environment subject to constant activity levels and stressful situations related to life or death dependent responses to emergencies.
